Princess Cayce Is Still My Name: the spring campaign (The Broken Throne Book 4)
There’s a lot wrong with the world I find myself in. The earls are angry about the knighthood, worried about my blood-ties to a foreign power, and likely working behind my back to take the kingdom for themselves. The suitors ever vying for my attention, my hand in marriage. The crazy behavior of the foxes and ravens and crows who seek me out just to bow.And the coming war.All these I could handle, well almost handle, but for the raging magic inside me. Powerful, angry, wanting out. And I feel it. Want to release it! Yet using magic would not only guarantee that the mages would hunt me down, it would endanger everyone around me. And I just couldn’t let that happen. But when did this world give me a choice?

What a Gripping Read!
What a book! With all the elements and character- and story- building of the first three books, things really start happening! A much longer book than the others, but reads very smoothly with great pacing throughout...a good rhythm of nice calm lulls and quick-moving scenes. If you like the first three books and/or were wanting more, this book delivers! The writing, details, story, and ebb-and-flow of it all draws you in, and I'll just say this, what an ending!!! So much happens in this fourth book, and yet it leaves so much more open! Well worth the read! I can't wait for book five!
Kept me wanting more !
Being led by the nose was never more enjoyable. In the words of Alice, “curiouser and curiouser”. A fun read and compelling story.
Review for the series
I finished all 4 books at once so this review reflects it. Book 4 had came a long long way from the writing of book 1. 4 was action packed, the dialogue was sharper and the stakes higher and I was constantly surprised, in a good way, by the choices the author made. The last book still needs a good editor, I caught a lot of misspellings and grammatical issues, but I don't think it detracts from the story much. I enjoy the main character, I like even with the advantage of modern knowledge and information at his disposal he's limited to what he can do and introduce to his new world. He fails a lot and that's okay because having a hero who gets everything right on the first try and is practically the best at everything is boring and unenjoyable. He's limited by his new world's sexism, misogyny and ageism, and the way the other characters treat 'Cayce' and his own lack of familiarity with the culture and politics of the time. The problems make the politics, intrigue and integration very interesting. It's really easy to side with him on how he feel about being paraded around creepy old men who won't stop lusting after his host body's 14/15 year old self and other men who can't seem to take no for an answer and kept pursuing him with little respect to 'Cayce's' wish to just be left alone. It really seem like the only man in the whole series who isn't a creep and respect boundaries is the main character! It's a fun read and I look forward to the conclusion in book 5.
A fantastic read with grounded, real characters
There are many books in this Genre that are either a Harem theme, or just pure power trips with the main character getting incredible fantastic power, or being able to do no wrong. This is not one of those. Our main character is naive, and makes mistakes as often as she is successful. What a cliffhanger though for an ending to book four, I did not expect that, and really hope its not all as it seems.
Bravo!
A fantastic read for any fan of adventure, sword & sorcery. This is easily one of the best series that I have read in the past few years and it saddens me to know that it will soon reach its conclusion.
3 My Own Murders Of Crows And Conspiracies Of Ravens, Skulks Of Foxes Stars
Princess Cayce Is Still My Name: the spring campaign is the fourth book in The Broken Throne series by p d ball. My review is biased for this book. I'm definitely upset with the loss of two of Cayce's closest confidante/supporters. Or at least the perceived loss. It's still debatable whether the iron would have protected one of them, and she could find no evidence of the others' true death. We may yet be pleasantly surprised in the following book. This brings us to the annoyance that is the buildup to Barclay Duchy and the utter disregard for creating a cohesive transition from absolute lack of knowledge to the extreme actions taken that led us here. Because I was gobsmacked by the way the author took this story. I'm trying, with much difficulty, not to reveal any major spoilers. Probably failed. We have learned nothing within four whole books about the breadth of her ability. This next book hints at its secrets finally being revealed. But this entire time spent lacking such essential knowledge has made enjoying this series rather frustrating. I feel as if I'm missing the entire backstory and further understanding of the mechanics of this world. We only touch on the immediate vicinity and barely that at all.
Mystery, Mystical, trouble
Its been several months since he/she was this person, thou he/she was a princess in a power struggle, Cayce discovered that she has power like a magician or wizard. She figure out that she find a way , temporary control it, threw special jewelry to dampened it. But she needs to control, her power. While to keep her kingdom. Who is Cayce, the person who is Cayce has no knowledge than he/her 15 years or life and knowledge of his/her other life.
The saga continues....
Cayce continues to develop and her world is expanding. Didn't expect that ending though! This was another enjoyable read allowing my imagination to run away within the story. Love it!
Just, BRILLIANT!
I didn’t leave reviews for the first three books which I now regret because I really should have. I wanted to see where the story went, and just got sucked in. These books are so well written, the author is a brilliant storyteller. The way he brings to life all the characters, all the sights, sounds and smells, I can’t remember the last time I read a story that felt so real. The tale of Princess Cayce is absolutely riveting, it just keeps me wanting to and more. A combination of fantasy and ancient history, but set in an unknown land (or on an unknown planet? Or just inside the main character’s mind, who knows?). There were only two negative aspects to this, the fourth book in the series: SPOILER ALERT: One of the main characters, we are led to believe, has been killed (not saying who). I just hope that the author finds a way to resurrect them. The second - I now have to wait for the next book to arrive. I just know I won’t be able to put it down. Do yourself a favour and read this brilliant series!
