Many good stories in this collection. Mostly in first person

Underwhelming and somewhat repetitive

These stories read very much like short Creepypasta tales, but most lacked any real thrills or bite and were of the ‘someone thought they saw something creepy in the woods, so they drove away quickly and didn’t ever go back there again’ variety. One – ‘Summer Camp Nightmare’ - was just a short tale about a boy who got bullied by a couple of kids who held him under the water at summer camp until he blacked out and was pulled out of the water by an adult – no supernatural forces involved. The writing was solid enough, but it was hard to tell with some of the stories what age group they were aimed at. There was no real suspense or build-up to anything more spooky than characters briefly seeing something through a window or out of the corner of their eye and then running away, never to return. With every story having the same cookie-cutter ending, summarising in under a page that ‘character X was thoroughly spooked and thought about their strange experience for the rest of their life’ etc, it would be difficult to recommend this collection to readers looking for short tales with well-crafted narratives and story arcs.
